A Review: Archaic Words and the Authorized Version, by Laurence M. Vance

Vance describes his book this way: "The thesis of this seminal work is that the Authorized Version is no more archaic than daily newspapers, current magazines, and modern Bible versions." (viii)

I give him an extra star for cheek.

Then [NERD ALERT] I teach everybody a little bit about how to distinguish different kinds of archaic words.

Then I look at Vance’s treatment of ten different words, randomly chosen by Siri:

1. Gazingstock
2. Importunity
3. Farthing
4. Cockatrice
5. Verily
6. Champaign
7. Mess
8. Oration
9. Beeves
10. Translate

So fun!
